Residency + open public performance for 24hrs.
Saturday 16 May at 12 noon until Sunday 17 May at 12 noon.
41 rue saint jean. 59100. Roubaix, France.
Demeure, RBX, with the collaboration of the inhabitants of the district, presents a restitution of residence for our first ten international artists.
For the inauguration of Demeure, RBX., ten international artists were invited to live at 41 rue Saint Jean for 5 days to create a landscape of the domestic during La Nuit des Arts 2015. For 24 hours, artists and visitors will live together; Daily routines, habits and private spaces appropriate for the use of a house will be integrated as working constraints to talk about events, rituals and intimacy. Rather than show or exhibition, we will talk about a constructed situation, as a set of interacting protocols, including as much the gesture of the artist as that of the visitor.
This project is a participatory and alternative model to the cultural industries, co-produced together, on the basis of the donation, the generosity and the availability of the actors of the neighborhood, sensitized meeting after meeting. The question to ask is no longer: “where to expose?” but rather is “how to exhibit here?” and “for whom?”.
